ME/CFS
The Functional Capacity (FUNCAP) score is a standardized clinical instrument utilized to quantify the specific neuroimmune dysfunction characteristic of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Long Covid. Unlike conventional medical tests that evaluate immediate physical capability, the FUNCAP specifically assesses Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM), capturing the severe physiological exacerbation that occurs hours or days following exertion. The diagnostic translates these complex multi-systemic limitations into a 0 to 6 scale. This aggregate score is derived by calculating the arithmetic mean of the patient's individual scores across eight functional domains. A baseline score of 6 indicates the optimal homeostasis and stamina typical of a healthy adult. I currently hover around a 3.5 as of Spring 2026.

Note: these severity bins are general guidelines, not prescriptive labels. The FUNCAP score does not capture all the struggles of chronic illness. A healthy adult sits around 6.0, and any deviation below that baseline represents a substantial degree of impairment
